यो मर्त्ये॑ष्व॒मृत॑ ऋ॒तावा॑ दे॒वो दे॒वेष्व॑र॒तिर्नि॒धायि॑। होता॒ यजि॑ष्ठो म॒ह्ना शु॒चध्यै॑ ह॒व्यैर॒ग्निर्मनु॑ष ईर॒यध्यै॑ ॥१॥
स्वर सहित पद पाठयः । मर्त्ये॑षु । अ॒मृतः॑ । ऋ॒तऽवा॑ । दे॒वः । दे॒वेषु । अ॒र॒तिः । नि॒ऽधायि॑ । होता॑ । यजि॑ष्ठः । म॒ह्ना । शु॒चध्यै॑ । ह॒व्यैः । अ॒ग्निः । मनु॑षः । ई॒र॒यध्यै॑ ॥

Subject [विषय - स्वामी दयानन्द] - The duties of absolutely truthful enlightened persons are stated.
Translation [अन्वय - स्वामी दयानन्द] - O men! God is Immortal among the mortals, is embodiment of Truth endowed with Divine virtues, actions and nature and the most desirable among the divine persons and articles. He is the Omnipresent, Giver of true happiness, Adorable with devotion on account of His Greatness, has been set in heart for its purification and true elevation, like the fire is placed at the altar to be kindled with oblations for various purposes.

Purport [भावार्थ - स्वामी दयानन्द] - O men! God Who is never born or dead or decayed is endowed with divine nature and is absolutely pure. He should be worshipped through noble thinking and purity.
Foot Notes - (अरति:) सर्वत्र प्राप्तः = Omnipresent. (होता) दाता। ब्रह्माग्नि: (Stph 1, 3, 3, 19) = Giver of happiness and bliss etc. ब्रह्म वा अग्नि (कौषीतकी ब्रा० 9, 1, 5, 12, 8) इत्यादि प्रामाण्यात् अग्नि पदेनान ब्रह्मणो ग्रहणम् । अग्नि: कस्मादग्रणीर्भवति (NKT. 7, 4, 15 ) = God the Supreme Leader. The epithets used for Agni like अमृत: ऋतावा, देवेषु देव: यजिष्ठः clearly substantiate Rishi Dayananda's interpretation of Agni as God here.
